Can urine test determine the occurrence of nephrotic syndrome?
Under normal circumstances, there are four ways to diagnose the Nephrotic syndrome:
24h urine protein quantity: if the 24h urine protein is over 3.5g, there is a high chance of nephrotic syndrome.
Urine routine examination: Qualitative analysis of urine protein and microscopic examination of urine sediment can be used to determine if there is any glomerular lesion.
Blood lipid determination: nephrotic syndrome patients often have lipid metabolism disorders, rise in blood lipid.
Plasma protein determination: if albumin is lower than 30g, it will be diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome.
Thus, only urine test can not be determined with nephrotic syndrome. Diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome needs to know impaired renal function, to do further diagnosis.
