Follow a healthy diet. Having a healthy diet will help improve the recovery of transplanted kidney and prevent the potential complications of transplantation. Drink plenty of fluid, as dehydration may be harmful to the new kidney. Generally, there is no longer limitation of fluid intake. Restrict the intake of sodium to help control fluid retention and blood pressure. Avoid high potassium foods.
- Avoid doing too much too soon. For example, a person will typically need to avoid heavy lifting after a kidney transplant. A kidney transplant patient may be advised to limit the amount of weight he lifts for up to six months following surgery.
- Take mild exercise gradually and regularly. In many cases, a person can begin mild forms of exercise, such as walking. Eventually, he may add such exercise as tennis, swimming, jogging, and even aerobics.
- Following doctor’s orders is the easiest way to ensure a speedy recovery from kidney transplant surgery. Follow the instructions of medicine use can help us avoid many bad effects caused by incorrect use of medicines.
